Dr. Emanuele Sommario

Emanuele Sommario is Assistant Professor (Ricercatore Universitario) of International Law at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa (Italy). He is the Director of the Scuola’s Master in Human Rights and Conflict Management and Co-Director of the International Disaster Law Course held at the International Institute of Humanitarian Law.

Emanuele holds a PhD in International Law from the Scuola Sant’Anna and an LLM in Public International Law from the University of Nottingham (UK). His main interests lay in Human Rights Law, International Humanitarian Law, and International Disaster Law, and he is the author of several scholarly works on these topics, which he teaches at under- and post-graduate level. Between 2013 and 2016 he was the coordinator of a local unit within the International Disaster Law Project, financed by the Italian Ministry for University and Research. He is also a member of the International Law Association’s Committee on Human Rights in Times of Emergency.

Emanuele served in several Electoral Observation Missions and was engaged in training activities for the personnel of international, governmental and non-governmental organisations in Europe, the Horn of Africa, the Middle East and the Balkans.
